If you want a ghost walk with gear in hand, Ghost Tours of Amelia Island is the privately run company, separate from the history museum's Friday tour. Two guides run it. Colleen is a master barber by day who's lived in Fernandina Beach since 2014, and Jeannie guided tours in Savannah for six years before moving down the coast. Both of their main tours come with ghost hunting equipment.
The Haunted Ghost Tour meets at 715 Centre Street and lasts an hour and a half to two hours, covering half a mile to a mile on foot. It finishes at St. Peter's cemetery, behind St. Peter's Episcopal Church. The Haunted Bar Crawl, which they call Boos and Brews, stops at three or four bars over about an hour and 45 minutes and ends at the place the company bills as Florida's oldest bar. It's 21 and up, so bring ID, and your drinks aren't included in the ticket.
A few practical points:
- You can book online, by phone at 1-866-446-7824, or in person at 1949 South 8th Street.
- The company warns that the bar crawl sells out and recommends booking early.
- Tours go ahead in light rain, cold or heat. Refunds are only given when the company calls off a tour for weather like lightning, heavy rain or winds over 20 mph, and they'll offer another date.
- The reservation form also lists a Haunted Hike and a Cemetery Tour, and you can ask for a private tour or a different night.
The Amelia Island Museum of History ghost tour is the other option in town. It's shorter, it runs only on Friday evenings, and it starts at the same cemetery where this tour ends. If a group dinner downtown is part of the night, reservations and bookings can book the table to fit around the tour.
