If you'd rather have bikes waiting at your rental than pick them up from a shop, Bike Amelia delivers beach cruisers anywhere on Amelia Island. It's the bike delivery service of Riptide Watersports, which runs the online booking, so there's no storefront to visit. The fleet is single-speed adult cruisers and kids' bikes, plus a child seat (one child, up to 30 pounds) or a pull-behind trailer if you're riding with little ones.
Delivery runs on a fixed window. Bikes arrive between 10 a.m. and noon, and they're picked up between 8 and 10 a.m. on the last day you've reserved. The company contacts you by phone, text or email before the drop-off, and if it can't reach you, your delivery moves to the next open slot. A helmet and a lock come with every bike, and if something goes wrong mid-ride, they'll offer roadside help or a replacement bike.
The rules, from the rates page and FAQ:
- The renter has to be at least 18, with a valid driver's license and a major credit card for the deposit.
- Payment is by credit card only. No cash or checks.
- Cancellations need 24 hours' notice, and date changes usually don't carry a penalty.
- Riding on hard-packed sand at low tide is allowed at no extra charge. Riding in the surf isn't.
For a route, the company suggests the paved trail from Amelia Island State Park to Peters Point, then north toward Fort Clinch either on the beach or in the Fletcher Avenue bike lane. Ask about the Bike + Boat Experience if you want to pair a ride with time on the water.
