You can shop for home goods at Sax & Blue and then settle in with a glass of wine while a record spins, because part of this South Eighth Street storefront is a vinyl lounge. Alan and Elizabeth Young opened it. They also own Coastal Estate Sales, a family-led estate sale company working across Northeast Florida, and their About page says the same hunt for hard-to-find pieces drives the boutique.
On the retail side, the shop names handcrafted Nupe pots, Turkish olive jars, linen apparel, jewelry and gourmet treats, along with home décor, artisan gifts, fine jewelry and clothing for adults and children. A rotating gallery shows work by local and regional artists, so the walls change as well as the shelves.
The lounge holds what the owners describe as one of Northeast Florida's largest vinyl collections, with records from jazz and soul to classic rock and modern pop, plus a list of wines, beers and other drinks to order while you listen. The events calendar has included live music in the lounge, Mimosa Saturday sip-and-shop events and an artist's charity evening.
You can also rent the whole place. A booking gets you exclusive use of the boutique and lounge for an hour, a morning or an afternoon, with seated or standing layouts, and the owners pitch it for birthdays, private happy hours, creative meetings and family gatherings.
Sax & Blue is at 1104 South Eighth Street, south of Redbones Dog Bakery and Boutique and away from the downtown blocks. It's open Tuesday through Saturday and closed Sunday and Monday.
