You can book a round at Fernandina Beach Golf Club whether or not you're a member, because this is the city's own course: it's listed as a department of the City of Fernandina Beach and sits at 2800 Bill Melton Road. Members and nonmembers reserve the same way, online through GolfNow or by calling (904) 310-3175. The club says its lowest rates are always the online ones, and walk-up or phone bookings can cost more.
The 27 holes are three nines, called West, South and North, that pair up into three 18-hole routes. Each nine measures well over 3,000 yards from the championship tees. From the blue tees, West to South plays 6,861 yards, North to West plays 6,705, and South to North plays 6,240.
Beyond the course:
- The Lighthouse Driving Range is open seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from April through September and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from October through March. You don't need a reservation, and you buy balls in the pro shop.
- The East Nine Bar & Grill opens at 7 a.m. daily and serves breakfast and lunch all day.
- Group and private lessons are offered through Scott Womble, who books directly.
- The clubhouse, dedicated in March 2000, has a golf shop and hosts outings, weddings and banquets.
A volunteer group, Friends of Fernandina Beach Golf Club, raises money for amenities, and the city's page credits it with new tee markers, back-porch furniture and ball washers.
For a membership club that also sells public tee times, The Amelia River Club is on Buccaneer Trail. The Omni's Little Sandy is a separate 10-hole short course for a quick family round. If the course is a big part of why you winter here, home watch keeps an eye on the house during the months you're away.
