You can bring a passenger along at no extra charge on Amelia Jet Ski Rental's guided rides, since prices are per ski and the second rider is free. Tours leave from F-Dock at 3 South Front Street in downtown Fernandina Beach, daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The business now runs as Beyond the Wake LLC, though its booking system and email still carry the Evolution Jetsports name.
You choose between a one-hour ride and a two-hour Amelia and Cumberland eco tour. The longer route's map marks Fort Clinch, Cumberland's coastline, the Dungeness ruins (which sit inland from the shore) and Olde Town on the way back, with chances to spot dolphins. The one-hour ride covers part of that, with the guide choosing stops for the day's conditions. Every rental is guided, because the company says these waters have too many places to get stuck or hit an oyster bed.
Sort these out before you show up:
- Renters need to be 18 or older with a valid driver's license. Drivers 14 to 17 need a parent or guardian 21 or older with them, and passengers must be at least 10.
- If you were born in 1988 or later and plan to drive, finish the boating certificate before you arrive, or come an hour early to test on site.
- Everyone riding watches the PWIA safety video beforehand.
- Book at least an hour ahead, and expect a required damage waiver on each ski.
- Skis aren't allowed on the beach, and alcohol is off-limits.
The rental includes the ski, a tank of fuel, a life jacket and a whistle, and wetsuit bottoms and helmets are available. The company asks you to lock personal belongings in your car and leave your keys at the front desk.
